Weaning, oh goodness

Ok so I am starting to wean the babies from nursing and they are NOT taking it well. I tried weaning one nap at a time and we're down to two naps without and they are so fussy! Even one nap was hard and I tried just leaving them because people have said, if they are thirsty they'll drink it. But they don't really. I have the Nuby sippy cups for them with the milk and Presley drinks out of it better than Jayci. They both just kind of bite it and let it drip into their mouth so they don't really "drink" it, and they don't drink hardly anything. I am going to the store today to see if they have any other type of sippy cup that would work because I think these ones might come out a little too fast for them. They are the bigger ones that I used to give Kyla, so I want to see if they have a smaller version with handles or something that doesn't come out as fast. I've tried these ones and the littl Gerber ones with handles, which they can't quite figure out how to suck with the stopper for the "no drips" in it and if I take that out, I have milk EVERYWHERE. They also just don't seem to really want to drink it. I am so ready to be done nursing. I nursed two babies for almost a year! They will be a year old on the 27th and as most of you know that was my cutoff. They are just getting stronger and they rely so much on it to go to sleep etc. I am still having a hard time thinking i'm not going to be nursing my babies anymore. To me nursing has been a huge deal and I think it's because since I do have two babies at once it's hard to give a whole lot of attention to each of them, such as cuddles etc compared to when I had just Kyla and all my time and attention went just to her. I also have Kyla to give attention to also, so I think it's that special time I have been able to have with each of them in the day, just me and them. Kyla was 8 months old when I weaned her and she did great and took the bottle very well, so the transition to sippy cup was actually pretty easy for her. But I don't want to get these girls on a bottle and then have to wean them off that in a month. They also won't drink out of the bottle any better than a sippy cup so it's kind of pointless. I may as well just go straight to the sippy cup.
So what do I do? Does anyone have any great advice to get them to take the milk better or for the weaning process overall? Please help.

helps..I just kept with it, they will deal eventually it just takes some time. I had a few who fought me on it but again like anything it will take a few weeks to break the habit and then they forget and take what is in front of them. ITs frustrating but soon enough it will be over. They will drink when they get thirsty...hope that

Hmm...Im not much for advice as I had Jack on a bottle from day 1... but I have over 10 different sippys and he hates them all. I guess just stick with it. We're weaning off a bottle and it's working for the most part, but it is taking alot on my part! Good luck!

I weaned my boys from the bottle when they were about 14 months. It took them a while to figure the sippy cup out too. I would just choose a sippy cup type and stick with it. They will eventually figure it out. If you switch kinds too often, they will just get confused. I like the ones with the no drip plug things, just because there's no mess, so that's what we use. Good luck...and good job on nursing twins! I know how difficult that is!

i started norah on those nuby cups and she just bit them, so i switched to the playtex ones with handles. it still took her a long time, but i started offering her water in them at about 7 months, so she has had plenty of time to adjust to them. it does take a while, but she got the idea that you have to actually suck on it, not just chew!!!
good luck. i put her to bed last night for the first time without nursing! it went well though. whew. that was a long month! lol.

I also used the Playtex sippy cups, they seemed to work best for my kids. I only had to wean my kids off the bottle so I don't entirely know what you are going thru. Just keep with it and be patient they will get it, you just have to find the right sippy cup for them.

I have no advice cause I'm a wuss and love nursing till 17, 18 months. But mine usually just won't take anything for a few weeks and then eventually a little later on. Try a cup cup at dinner times.Eventually they either drink a little or none at all and get used to it. Try not just milk, juice watered down water, any liquid cuz I know u probably feel like they aren't getting any fluid so anythings better than nothing i think! good luck

I dont have any great advice, cause I have the same problem with Rylee, she wasnt getting much from me, and not growing, so I decided she needed more, so I tried a sippy, nothing, I finally got her to take a bottle, just cause she needed something. She is actually not doing AS bad with the sippy, I think the bottle helped her learn to suck something besides me, did that make sense? If you figure out a great cure, let me know. I also wish there was a sippy out there that didnt spill A LOT if there is no stopper, that they could suck, I HATE it!
